An excellent read
Hiding the elephant : how magicians invented the impossible and learned to disappear by Jim Steinmeyer
While it does give away a few tricks, it is mostly a history of stage magic, using those tricks to explain the developments of the craft and how stage magic changed over time.
Odd to find out that at least a few magicians blamed the death of classic stage magic on the Great War....
Speaking of such, when is The Magician coming out on dvd?! Kolchak, McMillan & Wife and McCloud are all scheduled for release.... I want my Bill Bixby!!!
Hurmph....
